Morgan was 16 when her other grandmother died of cervical cancer. So I knew she would remember these things and I didn't want to panic her...

The nurse escorted my 2 daughters into the room, after I collected my wits...Then I proceeded to do the absolute hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life...tell my 18 year old that she did have a malignant tumor and she would have to go thru chemo treatments....The fear in her eyes in that instant told me she was remembering her grandmothers and her girlfriend's mother and our neighbor that all had died of cancer... I then told her that her attitude and determination would be an 80% contribution to the cure ...that my mother had waited way to long to be cured (she had a fear and loathing of doctors) the cancer had spread thru most of her body before she finally saw the doctor. My mother-in-law had simply given up didnt try to get the treatment and let the cancer spread...

I told her the great thing was they got it early -the fact that it had burst was not good because if even one cancer cell got free to attach to another organ she would have been in worse trouble-so chemo was the best thing for her-kill it now-before it could spread...

So now we jump to 2 weeks later-Morgan is preparing for her first treatment-she wants me to cut her long hair short and donate the ponytail to "Locks of Love". Her tutor the high school is providing while she is recouperating, will be there later that afternoon. Her attitude is light-hearted....

The next day we talk to the oncologist, and proceed with the first treatment...except for the needles it goes rather well...the next day she is not very nauceous in fact, she feels pretty good. She wants to go back to school-she misses her friends-she wants to go to the prom -and she wants to walk with the rest of the class at graduation...we get permission from the doctors for her to go back to school.

3 weeks later her 2nd treatment goes a little rough...the nurse forgot to add the benadryl in the iv and she starts having trouble breathing...the staff jumps right in and fix it quickly and change the chemo meds as well-more needle sticks-they talk to us about having a port put in her chest to make it easier -Morgan wanted to wait -until the prom was over-the next month...(she didnt want a big bandage to show since her dress was strapless)

Her hair is coming out in clumps now and she has bald patches-so we work to eliminate as much of the hair as possible by a little tug -then I shaved the rest of it off for her...she grins as she looks in the mirror-she likes the shape of her bald head. Then we arrange for an appointment for a wig- The people at Jags Place were terrific! The insurance covered some of the cost-but I had no idea that wigs cost so MUCH!! The one she liked cost $500 and I would have to pay for it first and then let the insurance company reimburse me...(my husband had had a heart attack about 2 months earlier and I had been laid off for a year and a half-and with his doctor bills and prescriptions and hers as well- money was extremely tight for us...) The lady showing us the wigs saw Morgan's delight in the wig and my unease...as I eyed the $90 wigs-she excused herself for a moment and came back with a proposal -they would charge the insurance company for the what the insurance would cover and Jags would cover the rest of the cost!!!! (There are angels out there!!)

The Prom was April 29th. She looked great in her new wig and long blue gown (her sister bought for her) ! She wore long black gloves to hide the bruises on her hands and arms from where they had tried to find a vein for her treatment 2 days before but She had a blast !!! The following week she had the port put in her chest-which made her last treatment much easier

Graduation is June 3rd she is still determined to walk with the class, but I'm starting to see some weariness in her eyes, She is tired more often and is sleeping more-but not really resting ...she has maintained a 4.0 grade average even thru all of this! She has one more treatment before graduation and several more in June and July...She wants to start college in september...She'll make it I know!

She is still maintaining a positive attitude...and determination and excitement is high!
She is my Hero...

Well howdy Hi everyone!! Well it's Sunday night OOPS it's now Monday morning now that I look at the clock on the 'puter... I've been selling my art locally for about 35 years, and I have been selling my art on E Bay for about 6 years...I've been selling across the country and internationally as well! This is a small abstract titled "Vibrant" 8x10 it was a fun piece to create...

I signed up for my blog a few months ago, but sadly, had done nothing to it since...I've been helping birth and raise 8 puppies (AAKKK!!)
